Tips for Reading Reports

Analyzing the URL

  • If the domain name contains profane or vulgar words, the site is almost certainly problematic.
  • If only the path (after the domain) contains questionable words, the specific page may have problematic content — but it could also be a news article or similar.
  • Look at the file type at the end of the path: .jpg, .gif, .png indicate an image. The filename often reveals the nature of the content.
  • If the URL is from a major site (Google, YouTube, Reddit, etc.), the path and parameters give more context than the domain itself.

Being an Effective Chaver

  • Never navigate to a flagged website. Use only the tools on this page to check its nature.
  • When in doubt, ask. The best approach is to ask the user directly about the website. This also reminds them that you are actively reviewing their reports.
  • Be supportive, not judgmental. Your role as a Chaver is to help and encourage, not to police.
  • WebChaver never provides direct links to questionable websites. Clicking a report link always brings you to this page.
